'ROAD TRIP' . WINNER of 2018 Artist Magazines Annual International Art Competition, Abstract . 40" x 60" . Acrylic & Inks on Canvas . 2019 . $5,950 (SOLD).
Artist Notes: Road Trip' reminds me of when I was younger, carefree, and wouldn't think twice about throwing a pack on my back and hitting the road in search of adventure. It screams, freedom! It is one of my favorite paintings and hangs in front of my desk in my studio.
This painting was created with a multiple techniques using 'Golden' high flow acrylics and inks, in highly concentrated form, directly onto canvas.
My work usually starts on vast sheets of canvas, working on my hands and knees, for long hours, often days on the floor, working wet on wet, before I hang the work for line and palette work. I rarely use brushes as I prefer quick bold marks as they allow me to express myself without the wishy washy, overworking process of brushwork.
My tools include assorted plaster knives and large metal spatulas, fine and wide tip bottles for the bold exciting moves and just about anything within reach when inspired. I love to work while all the mediums are wet as there is a spontaneous effect that can only be achieved this way. I never know exactly how the paints will play together.
I also never know where painting will go once I start. ‘Road Trip’ began with the intentions of being a soft, quiet field of wildflowers. I paint what I feel and obviously I wasn't in a pastel kind of place. I’m pleased with the results!
