One of my most popular pieces.
Occasionally, not my usual painting style, these little critters show up and demand that they be given life, allowed to come together and play. Who am I to deny them this opportunity. They each have their own personalities. They want to sing and dance and celebrate life.
Many things going on in this painting - you can gaze for quite awhile and not see all there is to see - playful and relaxing or tormenting - guess it all depends on where your head is at. A great deal of detail.
I'd mentioned that this painting is 'not my usual style.' A word about that.
I allow, always have, the blank canvas to dictate what will appear. This frustrates the hell out of me sometimes, when I have different intentions, but to not allow the work to go where it must, would be to allow myself to be dishonest.
How can I be truly creative if I can't be free to totally change directions from painting to painting. I've completely changed style in the middle of a painting - Why Not! The painting style is, in my opinion, secondary to the story I am trying to tell. It's just paint. I try not to take things to seriously or my work will tighten up and be less interesting and bound up. I hope you find it interesting as well.
NOTE: Frames are custom made for my paintings with extra wide space for floating the canvas to accentuate the artwork. I've also added a small inner wood trim recessed within the recess to add a small accent.
